FIT & FUN OLDIES GALA SEASON 2
From five teams to eight. From a perfect league campaign to a commanding final victory. The Oldies Gala continues to grow, and Kabenga FC continue to set the standard.
Football has no expiry date! That was the message when football veterans, old friends and sports enthusiasts gathered at Fit & Fun Complex in Kyaliwajjala on 6 September 2026 for the second edition of the Fit & Fun Oldies Gala.
Building on the successful inaugural edition of 2025, Season 2 introduced an expanded competition format, bringing together eight teams in a thrilling day of football, fitness, friendship and healthy rivalry.
The tournament delivered goals, competitive encounters and an exciting knockout stage, culminating in a commanding 5–0 final victory for Kabenga FC over Aboojo FC.
For Kabenga FC, it was another chapter in an impressive early history. Having won the inaugural edition with a perfect record, they returned to demonstrate that their success was no coincidence.
FROM FIVE TEAMS TO EIGHT: THE GALA’S GROWING STORY
The inaugural Fit & Fun Oldies Gala in August 2025 featured five teams competing in a straight round-robin league format.
Kabenga FC emerged as the first-ever champions, winning all four matches to collect 12 points and establish themselves as the team to beat.
Season 2 took the competition a step further.
The number of participating teams increased from five to eight, introducing a two-group format followed by semi-finals and a grand final.
The expanded competition featured:
The new format created a more demanding route to the championship, with teams required to negotiate their respective groups before earning a place in the knockout rounds.
KABENGA FC: CHAMPIONS AGAIN!
If Season 1 was an announcement of intent, Season 2 was confirmation of Kabenga FC’s dominance.
The defending champions began their campaign in Group A and immediately demonstrated why they were considered serious contenders.
They finished the group stage with three wins from three matches, collecting nine points, scoring 10 goals and conceding just three.
Their perfect group-stage record secured first place and a semi-final meeting with Group B runners-up Amigos FC.
Kabenga FC prevailed 2 – 1 in a closely contested encounter to book their place in the final.
Waiting for them were Aboojo FC, who had defeated Old Monks United 5 – 1 in the other semi-final.
The stage was set for a championship showdown.
THE GRAND FINAL: A STATEMENT OF CHAMPIONS
The final was the defining moment of Season 2.
Kabenga FC produced a five-star performance to defeat Aboojo FC by five goals without reply.
It was a fitting conclusion to an impressive campaign and another demonstration of the champions’ consistency.
Having topped the inaugural league standings in 2025, Kabenga FC had now conquered the expanded group-and-knockout format in 2026.
Two editions. Two championships. One team setting the benchmark.
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE: THE SEASON 2 AWARDS
Beyond the team competition, the Fit & Fun Oldies Gala Season 2 also celebrated individual brilliance, outstanding performances, sportsmanship and memorable moments through its awards ceremony.
Kabenga FC enjoyed a particularly successful awards haul, reflecting their dominance throughout the tournament. Their players collected several individual honours, including the Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Best Goalkeeper and Best Defender awards.
However, the recognition extended well beyond the champions, with players from Aboojo FC, New Home Base, Amigos FC and Old Monks United also earning individual accolades.

THE OLDIES GALA PHILOSOPHY: AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
At its heart, the Fit & Fun Oldies Gala is about keeping the spirit of football alive.
With eligibility restricted to players aged 30 and above, the competition celebrates experience, fitness, teamwork and the friendships that football creates.
The tournament’s guiding rules also emphasise discipline and fair play.
Among the key provisions are:
- Players must be at least 30 years old, with National IDs required.
- Teams field a maximum of six players, including a goalkeeper.
- Substitutions are unlimited on a rolling basis, subject to the referee’s approval.
- Yellow-card offences result in a two-minute sin-bin suspension.
- A red card or second yellow results in dismissal and suspension from the next match.
- Group-stage ties are determined by points, goal difference, goals scored and head-to-head criteria.
- Knockout matches that finish level are decided by direct penalty kicks.
These provisions help maintain the competitive spirit of the gala while ensuring that the enjoyment of the game remains central.
LOOKING AHEAD: A TRADITION IN THE MAKING
The second edition has demonstrated the potential of the Fit & Fun Oldies Gala to grow into an established annual sporting event.
From five teams in 2025 to eight teams in 2026, the competition has expanded its reach while retaining its original philosophy: football, fitness, friendship and healthy competition.
Kabenga FC have set the early benchmark, but the challenge is now open to the other participating teams to regroup, strengthen and return determined to challenge the champions.
Aboojo FC have shown their attacking potential, Amigos FC and Old Monks United have demonstrated their competitiveness, and the other teams have valuable experience to build on.
The question heading into the next edition is simple:
Who will finally dethrone Kabenga FC?
One thing is certain: the years may advance, but the passion for football never retires.
