The Summit League Launch Gala 2025 concluded in style at Fit & Fun Complex, Kyaliwajjala, on Sunday, 12th October 2025, with Natal FC defeating Abombeki FC 2–0 in the final after a day of competitive group-stage football and two thrilling semi-finals.
A Competitive Beginning for The Summit League
The Summit League Launch Gala 2025 brought ten teams together at Fit & Fun Complex in Kyaliwajjala for a full day of football, featuring a group-stage competition followed by semi-finals and a final.
Organised around two five-team groups, the tournament provided a demanding test of consistency, attacking quality and defensive organisation. Every team had four group-stage matches, with the leading sides advancing to the knockout rounds.
By the end of the competition, Natal FC had emerged as champions, overcoming Abombeki FC in the final to cap a tournament that featured closely contested qualification battles, impressive goal-scoring performances and decisive knockout football.
Natal FC Finish the Job in a 2–0 Final Victory
Final: Abombeki FC 0–2 Natal FC
Natal FC were crowned champions after defeating Abombeki FC 2–0 in the tournament final, played at 9:30 p.m.
The result gave Natal the decisive victory in a competition in which Abombeki had proved particularly difficult to break down. Abombeki entered the final after finishing top of Group A without conceding a goal across their four group-stage matches.
The championship match also provided an opportunity for Natal to respond to their earlier group-stage defeat against the same opponents. Abombeki had beaten Natal 1–0 during the group stage, but Natal came out ahead when the two sides met again with the title at stake.
For Natal FC, the final represented the culmination of a strong campaign that included victories over 2011 Heroes FC and Valley FC, followed by a dramatic semi-final victory over Matchbox FC.
For Abombeki, reaching the final was itself a significant achievement, underlining the team’s ability to compete at the highest level of the gala.
Semi-Finals Deliver Two Dramatic 3–2 Results
The semi-finals produced identical scorelines, with both matches decided by a single goal.
Abombeki FC 3–2 Karere FC
Abombeki FC secured their place in the final with a 3–2 victory over Karere FC in the first semi-final, played at 8:30 p.m.
After negotiating the group stage unbeaten, Abombeki were pushed into a much tighter contest by Karere. The five-goal encounter was a substantial test for the Group A leaders, who nevertheless did enough to progress to the championship match.
Karere’s run ended at the semi-final stage, but their qualification from Group B and performance in the knockout round demonstrated their competitiveness throughout the tournament.
Matchbox FC 2–3 Natal FC
Natal FC booked the second place in the final by defeating Matchbox FC 3–2 in the evening’s other semi-final.
Matchbox had finished top of Group B with nine points and entered the knockout stage following an impressive group campaign. Natal, however, found a way past the group winners in a closely contested encounter.
The result set up a final between the two Group A sides, with Natal and Abombeki meeting for the championship after negotiating separate paths through the semi-finals.
Both semi-finals demonstrated the unpredictable nature of knockout football: a strong group-stage record offered no guarantee of progression, and both finalists had to deliver when the stakes were highest.
Group A: Abombeki Lead, Natal Edge Valley FC
Group A featured Abombeki FC, Natal FC, Valley FC, 2011 Heroes FC and Ensayi FC.
Abombeki finished first with eight points from four matches, recording two wins and two draws without losing a game. Their defensive record was particularly impressive: they scored twice and conceded no goals throughout the group stage.
Natal FC and Valley FC both finished on seven points, but Natal took second place with the superior goal difference.

| Position | Team | P | W | D | L | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Natal’s decisive results
Natal’s passage to the semi-finals was built on an effective response after dropping points in their opening two fixtures. They drew 1–1 with Ensayi FC before losing 1–0 to Abombeki FC.
They then recorded two important victories: a 3–0 win over 2011 Heroes FC and a 1–0 victory against Valley FC. Those results helped Natal finish ahead of Valley on goal difference and secure qualification for the knockout stage.
Valley FC also had a productive group campaign, including an impressive 3–1 victory over 2011 Heroes FC and a 1–0 win against Ensayi FC. However, their goalless draw against Abombeki and 1–0 defeat to Natal proved crucial in the final standings.
2011 Heroes FC finished fourth with four points, while Ensayi FC completed the group with one point.
Group B: Matchbox FC Win a Tight Qualification Race
Group B consisted of Matchbox FC, Karere FC, Omusidi FC, Omusisa FC and Indomitables FC.
The battle for the top two positions was especially competitive. Matchbox FC and Karere FC both finished on nine points, having each won three of their four matches. Matchbox secured first place with a goal difference of +3, ahead of Karere’s −1.

Matchbox FC demonstrate consistency
Matchbox FC delivered three group-stage wins to finish ahead of Karere on goal difference. They beat Omusisa FC 2–0, defeated Omusidi FC 1–0 and overcame Indomitables FC 2–1.
Their only group-stage defeat came against Karere, who won 1–0 in the teams’ meeting. Despite that setback, Matchbox’s overall results were enough to secure first place in the group.
Karere also recorded three victories, beating Omusisa FC 1–0, Indomitables FC 2–1 and Matchbox FC 1–0. However, their 5–1 defeat to Omusidi FC had a significant impact on their overall goal difference.
Omusidi FC produce one of the tournament’s standout results
Omusidi FC delivered one of the most eye-catching results of the group stage with a 5–1 victory over Karere FC.
They followed that performance with a 2–0 win against Indomitables FC and a goalless draw with Omusisa FC. Although a 1–0 loss to Matchbox FC prevented them from reaching nine points, Omusidi finished third with seven points.
Omusisa FC ended the group stage fourth with four points, while Indomitables FC finished fifth after losing all four matches.

Finally, the tournament demonstrated the value of a compact, group-based format for bringing multiple teams together in a single-day event. Ten teams had the opportunity to compete across four group fixtures each, with the strongest performers progressing to the semi-finals and final.
